Introducing the PSA Technician Bootcamp: Investing in the Skills That Power the Security Industry

Security technicians are the backbone of the security industry. They are the boots on the ground. The ones installing, servicing and supporting the systems that protect people, businesses and communities every day.

As technology continues to evolve and systems grow more complex, the need to invest in technician development has never been greater. Recruiting new talent into the industry is critical, but long-term success depends on something more: creating meaningful, accessible opportunities for technicians to grow, build skills and advance in their careers.

That belief has guided PSA’s approach to education and workforce development for years. In honor of the Foundation for Advancing Security Talent (FAST)’s National Security Technician Day on Jan. 23, 2026, PSA is proud to announce the PSA Technician Bootcamp, an expansion of our ongoing commitment to supporting technicians and the companies that rely on them.

Introducing the PSA Technician Bootcamp

To build on this foundation, PSA is adding two dedicated technician training weeks each year through the PSA Technician Bootcamp.

Between active jobs, travel and customer demands, finding the right time for certifications isn’t always easy. The PSA Technician Bootcamp was designed with these challenges in mind to offer more flexible formats in addition to PSA TEC certifications.

The program will be offered in two formats:

  1. In-Person PSA Technician Bootcamp
September 2026, hosted at PSA Headquarters in Westminster, Colorado

  2. Virtual PSA Technician Bootcamp
    January 2027

Both formats are designed to support technician growth while offering flexibility for different operational needs. Training Bucks are applicable, making it easier for companies to invest directly in their technicians.

How PSA Supports Technicians Today

PSA has long focused on providing flexible, real-world ways for members to invest in technician training and recognizing that no two businesses operate the same.

Today, PSA supports technician development through several key avenues:

  • PSA Training Bucks, which members can use year-round to invest in technician education and certifications

  • The PSA Scholarship, provides financial support for PSA owner companies’ employees and their families who are looking to further their education at higher institutions or obtain industry certifications in the physical and cybersecurity sectors

  • Manufacturer certifications available through BuyPSA.com, aligned with individual partner training schedules and presented by PSA University

  • Certification and training opportunities at PSA TEC, bringing hands-on learning directly to the PSA community

  • The PSA Technician Committee, launched this year to ensure technician-focused initiatives remain grounded in field realities and member needs

Together, these resources give members the ability to train technicians when and how it makes sense for their business.

Built for Real-World Operations

PSA understands that getting technicians out of the field isn’t always easy. Staffing models, service commitments and schedules vary widely across organizations.

That’s why PSA focuses on offering options, not mandates.

Between year-round certifications through BuyPSA.com, training opportunities at PSA TEC and now the PSA Technician Bootcamp, PSA members can choose the approach that best fits their business. PSA’s role is to help remove barriers and make technician training accessible, realistic and impactful.

Recruiting Talent Is Only the First Step

Attracting new talent into the security industry is essential, and PSA works alongside industry partners to support that effort. Through collaboration with organizations including Security Industry Association (SIA), Electronic Security Association (ESA) and FAST, PSA helps raise awareness of security careers and promote pathways into the industry.

One key resource is PSA and SIA’s Security Industry Career Guide, which outlines career opportunities and progression within the security industry and is designed to support recruiting and awareness efforts. The guide helps show prospective technicians that this industry offers not just jobs, but long-term careers.

But recruiting is only the beginning.

Once technicians enter the industry, companies must be prepared to invest in training, certifications and continued development. That’s where PSA’s education ecosystem comes in.

Supporting the Full Technician Lifecycle

PSA is committed to supporting technicians throughout their entire career journey. From awareness and recruiting to training, certification and long-term growth.

This is about investing in the people who keep the industry moving forward.

To every security technician: thank you for the work you do. The PSA Technician Bootcamp is for you, and for the future of our industry.

Stay tuned as we announce the training and certifications that will be offered from PSA technology partners, pricing and more!
