Leadership Lesson: Finding Focus

August 8, 2016

In order to be a more effective leader, you must think, inspire, energize, connect, and act like a leader. Here is a quick tip to help escalate your success as a leader by finding focus:

Finding Focus
In today’s fast-paced business environment, it can be very overwhelming, hard to find focus, and difficult to determine what is most important to focus on at any given time. We are inundated with technology and information 24/7, which makes focus and attention challenging. In order to find your focus, make sure to align your attention with the person you are and the impact you want to have. Once you find your focus you can begin getting your work done and being more efficient and effective in accomplishing tasks which in turn will boost your confidence.

One way to boost our will power and focus is to manage our distractions instead of letting them manage us.
~Daniel Goleman~

Try This:
When you encounter a situation where you are lacking focus, the first thing you should do is to stop and take a step back. Sometimes just taking that step back can give you a new perspective, much like an artist stepping away from their artwork to see it from a new viewpoint. When you are on your computer, you should close multiple windows or applications to help define your focus and help keep your mind from being overwhelmed by the multiple tasks. In order to prioritize, you want to define what is most important by determining deadlines, values, time and resources.

Finally, once you have prioritized, focus on milestones or small steps that will lead you to accomplishing the most important tasks.
